For some reason this time of year is my writing time. I don’t know if it is the chill in the air or if it is the fact that it is school holiday time so I don’t have to deal with the interruption of going to work but, in July, my writer’s juices flow stronger than at any other time of the year.
I spend hours scribbling notes on scraps of paper whilst watching television, researching vague ideas on Google and typing, deleting, copying, pasting etc. I find myself rehearsing the conversations my characters are about to have as I prepare dinner. This is disconcerting for my husband as he can’t figure out whether he is supposed to contribute to the discussion or not.
I sleep in two hour grabs and then jump out of bed at 2.00 a.m. to crank out another five hundred words before I forget them. My dreams are confused by my characters leaping in and out of them. Last night I dreamt I was pregnant which at my age was a bit of a shock. A check of the online dream dictionary revealed that this signifies creativity, the development of a creative project. Phew! I don’t mind giving birth to a new book.
I have set myself a release date because I find I work better with a target in mind. Who needs to sleep anyway?
‘Taya Bayliss – Code Breaker’ due for release August 30, 2014.
